About UsAged 15 and armed only with the £13.70 a week I made from my weekday paper round, it was always hard to find and buy Clothes I liked and which no-one else wore.
The choices were limited - Geordie Jeans in the Metrocentre, (when it still sold Criminal Damage and Punkyfish back in the day) Kathmandu in Newcastle or any of the many Gothic Shops in Whitby or York - all of which required over a month of saving for a single outfit.
A bit put out, I scavenged black vests from Charity shops, hacked them up and sewed zips and pinned badges and safetypins on them. Old stripey tights (Only available to me from Claires' Accessories) with the feet cut off and a hole cut in the crotch for sleeves and Army Boots salvaged from Bootsales.
I've always looked for cheap and high-quality clothes ever since I saw a £40 price tag on a pair of baggy jeans and thought "No way!". I spent many a weekend in my youth holed up in my bedroom sewing and customising new clothes and getting more and more excited with every scissor-snip and band-aided finger. I wrote various slogans on my shirts with fabric paint, customised them to death and loved each one (even the rejects pile!)
Six years on, my Partner and I had just bought our own House and the prospect of working the same unfulfilling job forever to pay the Mortgage was a bit daunting. A job should be something you love and enjoy enough to put 100% dedication in every day. I was still customising my clothes, and even though the Alternative Market had boomed, I saw lacey skirts and gorgeous dresses available to me but had already seen 10 girls wearing them on the way from the Bus Stop to the Town and craved something different.
Planet Neon Bunny has been running for two years dealing exculsively with bright, glow-in-the-dark and funky bracelets, and we were able to print my own designs and slogans as of September 2009. I follow each shirt through from designing the font, slogan or design right through to printing, packaging, posting and tracing. I make sure every single one is absolutely perfect before it reaches it's Happy Customer. I do everything myself and put so much love and effort into making something I know you'll be proud of and love wearing.
And because it wouldn't be PNB without a REAL Bunny...
